Jonathan Helena

Jonathan is an aspiring Clinician Scientist with a strong interest in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck and Skull Base Surgery.

Jonathan is currently serving as an ENT Principal House Officer at Queensland Health and undertaking a Higher Research Degree – examining the mechanisms of perineural spread (spread of a cancer into, and along, a nerve) in head and neck cancer through proteomic analysis (detailed analysis of the protein expression). His research is being supervised by Prof. Ben Panizza (PAH) and Prof. Phil Robinson (Children’s Medical Research Institute) – who are world leaders in perineural spread and proteomics respectively. Jonathan’s project aims to improve our understanding of the tumour biology of perineural spread in cutaneous head and neck cancer and how treatments can be optimised for patients.
